I ate my lunch

Thursday, March 31, 2005
Yesterday I bought some fresh mushrooms. When I got home I realized that I didn’t know how to clean them. So I called my mom. She told me that she has never used fresh mushroom in her cooking before. She only used dried and canned mushrooms. As I was about to store the mushroom in the fridge I saw on the paper bag that was provided by the store to wrapped the mushroom the instruction to clean them. It was easy, all I need to do is wipe them with clean cloth and all part of the mushroom can be eaten.

This morning I bought some herbs - parsley, coriander, chives, rosemary and thyme. When I got home, I chopped the herbs while I heat two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in the pan. I also cleaned some mushrooms and cut each into four. I don’t think I have ever smell rosemary and thyme before. The smells were so divine and sedative which conjures the notion of sleeping in my head. No wonder those two herbs are more expensive than the others. When the pan was smoking hot, I sauté the herbs and mushroom and I put them aside. The smell was lovely.

I beat three free range eggs. I had eaten free range egg before. The colour of the yolk is redder and the flavour is more intense than caged egg. The only thing that I don’t like about free range egg is the price is twice as much as caged egg. Then I added some milk to the eggs and beat some more. After that the sautéed herbs and mushroom went into the eggs and I mix them all well. I poured the mixture in hot frying pan. The smell was lovely.

I seasoned my omelette with salt and pepper. I ate my lunch.

Why I blog

Wednesday, March 30, 2005
Mon’s article made me think of why I blog. First of all, I believe the accumulation of information is useful. Although some may think too much of information is a nuisance but one who search information from many different sources will be better informed than one who seek information from only one source. Thus, a big repository of information is valuable, no matter how trivial some of the information in the repository may be. What is important is how one filters the information, and information filtering will be less of a hassle in the near future as search engine technology advances.

Before I came to here, I read many blogs of Malaysian students who are studying in Australia. And the blogs help me a lot, especially in terms of preparing me mentally. I also managed to make some new acquaintances with students in Oz through their blogs. That’s why I keep blogging, sharing a part of my life with others, no matter how trivial it may be to some. I believe somehow or another, my contribution to the ever expanding pool of information on the net, will help others. If it doesn’t help anybody, at least it helps me, knowing that no matter how far I am from my best friends, my life from theirs is just a mouse click away…

French Women Don't Get Fat

Sunday, March 27, 2005
Yesterday, I went to Brissy again. City Beach had a one-day sale, and the advertised price for jumper was only $39. My housemate wanted to come with me, although I was quite reluctant to go with him, I just couldn’t say no. The reason I wanted to go alone was I knew that I would take long hours just to buy one item of clothing and I was afraid that I might bore him to death. I also had a feeling that, I may not buy the jumper from City Beach, although when asked by my housemate, I said the reason I wanted to go to Brissy was because of the one-say sale at City Beach.

I felt quite bored with Uni these days, so I also planned to sit for at least one hour in Starbuck, enjoying my cup of flat white and watching people instead of having my coffee on the go. I’m quite ashamed to admit that I just finished reading ‘French Women Don’t Get Fat’ on Friday, and influenced by the book, I thought I might want to give attention to my senses and made a special ritual out of my coffee drinking habit instead of sipping my coffee from a small hole in a foam cup lid that block the smell of the coffee. Besides, in my Visual Thinking class, we were given exercises to accentuate our five senses in order to make us more aware of our surroundings and hopefully eventually we will be more creative. I think it is true that as human beings we are being bombarded with tons of information in a spilt second and we tend to filter our five senses. That’s why sometimes we don’t see the world as it is, but as what we ‘think’ it is.

Since I went to Brissy with a friend, I couldn’t spend more than 15 minutes in Starbuck cause my friend doesn’t like coffee. However, I managed to really use my five senses in drinking coffee, an experience I couldn’t get if I drink coffee on the go. I felt the warm of the mug in my hand, and observe the colour of coffee with milk. I tried to give attention to the smell of coffee in my mouth as I sip the warm liquid little by little. I guess, after this, whenever I feel bored with daily routine I’ll go to Starbuck or Gloria Jeans. I’ll make coffee drinking my special ritual.

As I had predicted, I didn’t buy my jumper from City Beach. I wanted a jumper with hood and zip, but the one on sale at City Beach is without zip. So I went to Myer then to several other shops and then back to Myer again and my housemate tag along ever so faithfully. It was so difficult to find a jumper with hood and zip at the price I can afford. At last, I bought one from Myer, the price is more than my budget. But lucky me, Myer had actually reduced the price without putting any sign to the price tag. So I get a good bargain…

Gettin' cold

Sunday, March 20, 2005
I’ve been very busy lately. I’m in the lab right now, just finished editing my movie on this lovely Mac Dual-Processor G5. When I see the final cut of the movie, I feel grateful that I had a chance to study here. I just love this machine. Yummy…yummy…

Yesterday I went to Myers to buy some clothes. The weathers getting cold and the only jacket I have is worn out. B said I look like a gangster wearing that jacket. I asked B to come with me but he was busy. So I went alone. I spent almost 4 hours, going around men’s department, taking this and that clothes, trying them, putting them back, and taking them again. At last, I bought a black jacket, a plain white shirt and a plain black shirt. Damn! I took almost 4 hours just to choose all those plain stuff. And I miss the last bus home cause while browsing around Myers I completely forgot about the time…@#$%

Sigh, tomorrow will be another long day for me…

Installing Art

Monday, March 14, 2005
‘In the 1990s it is hardly surprising to be informed that a row of broken windows in a derelict warehouse is not the debris from casual vandalism, but an exhibited work of art (although, there would be no reason why it could not be both)’ – Edward Colless

Get that? Reading papers about installation made me dizzy. Is this art or philosophy or both?

Installation

Friday, March 11, 2005
My lecturer is an artist who had done several installation exhibitions. She told me in order to get galleries to recognise one’s work, one can make installation in one own space, in a backyard for example, invite people to see it and videotape the artwork. During my conversation with her, an opportunity arises. She said she may let the students make their own decisions about what to do for project 3. This means that I can do installation if I want to and she will help. Now, I really wish that I will get the chance to exhibit my installation in Uni. But if that can’t be achieved, it doesn’t matter, because now I’m so deep in the process of learning installation art. Hmm…what is installation art, actually? Hahaha…

Tired

Wednesday, March 09, 2005
I have 9 projects for this semester. That's what I get when I don't want to have final exams. I'm tired and hungry now. Wish I have more money. One kilo of grapes plus one kilo of apples plus one liter of milk weigh more than one kilo. I have to remember that next time I buy groceries. I went to buy my art supplies in Ipswich and I thought I just get some food at Woolworth. I thought a kilo of apples wouldn't add so much to my burden of carrying things on the bus which include a humongous art folder and a big roll of cardboard that just wouldn't fit into the folder. Then I wanted some grapes. Oh that's ok just another kilo. How about milk? Oh just another liter. However, thank god, I didn't have any disaster on the bus.

I just finished making my cardboard prototype. Now, I'm going home to cook.

Dream

Monday, March 07, 2005
I had a very strange dream last night. It was a long dream, but I’m only going to write the part which terrified me the most. I was in the front lawn of my house in my hometown. Suddenly a white cat with black spots came running toward me. The cat was not a kitten yet it was not an adult cat. It climbed up my leg and stood on my shoulder and started to bite my mouth my neck. I tried to stop the cat but it gnawed my fingers. I woke up with a dreadful shock. The clock said half past two.

Semester 1, 2005

Friday, March 04, 2005
Ok I have 10 minutes to write this. Semester 1, 2005 has started. My housemate from Singapore moved out to live with another Singaporean in the village. Good. Got 2 new housemates from Korea and Bahrain. Good. All the courses I take are design oriented and require high visual skills. Good. Now...I'm going to a lecture
