Ipswich: WInter one day, summer the next

Thursday, July 28, 2005
If I remember correctly, this time last year when I first arrived it was so cold. And when I walked to class every morning, my hands were numbed. But right now, I’m wearing my summer clothes to class. Isn’t that just weird? I bet next week it’s going to be cold again…

Platypus in Sydney

Sunday, July 24, 2005
Just came back from Sydney. I had a great time there. It was not that bad at all to travel alone actually. And I brought back with me a lot of photos of myself in Sydney, all taken by strangers. But best of all about my trip was I got to see real live platypus in Sydney Aquarium. It was such an amazing experience. Never before had I thought that one day I would see this rare animals swimming, searching for food and biting each others’ tails of right before my eyes.

Hmm…Uni will start tomorrow. I have no mood at all to go to class…

My plan to travel

Friday, July 08, 2005
Finally, I booked accomodation in Sydney, the week after next. Also bought a new film camera. Hope my plan will go well.

Mon, I’ll be here until November, don’t know whether I can stay here a bit longer. I’ve no idea who is Mat Demon and didn’t even ask Norm about that guy. I know that he caused a bit of a stir in the other group.

Ok have to plan my trip now.

Final result

Wednesday, July 06, 2005
Got my final results today. Phew…I’m so glad. Thank God. I’m very satisfied with Graphic Design grade. Based on the marks for the three projects, which if I wanted to present in a graph the line would make a perfect downhill slope, what will differentiate whether I get one grade from another depends on how M evaluate my participation. Gosh…I just don’t like that kind of situation. Anyway, all is good now.

Nazri, I have emailed Mon about the reunion. He has the names now hehehe. I called Norman yesterday asking him to tell me more about the reunion. I wonder why I just can’t get enough of it. The new school is really good, but Norm doesn’t know whether the school has on-campus laundry service. I wonder if whoever is responsible for boarding schools still has the mentality that if one goes to boarding school, one to has to live a hard life. Common, we are not living in a stone age. And our country is not a poor third world country either.

Ok, I already made a plan to go to Sydney. The first action I take to achieve my goal is to buy a thick paperback. LOL. I bought Anna Karenina by Tolstoy. The reason is because in my plan I wanted to travel by train. So I need something to read. Since I prefer to read in the comfort of my living room than in a moving coach, I don’t really put high hopes for my plan to materialize ☺ hmmm. Why the hell am I so lazy to travel? Mon, bila nak datang sini?

Reunion news

Monday, July 04, 2005
Norm called. So I got some interesting update about the reunion. Since I don’t want to give names here, I can’t really write anything interesting about it. This and that person got fat. I mean really fat contrast to athletic build those people had in their teens. Some gain a bit weight that seems to be in direct proportion with the increment of age. I guess I would be in this category if I stayed in Malaysia. And this particular person has a receding hairline and also an illness. Hmm…this reminds me that I should make an appointment with a hair salon. I grow my hair back due to the cold weather. I guess I should light the colour of my hair a bit to make it less obvious that I’m losing my hair…hmmm…the problem is I always forget to call the salon probably because I don’t really care how I look these days...

Oh and this person has three children. OMG…three. And that person is now a teacher. Quite a number turned out to be teachers. What else. Another has become so thin and don’t look as ‘jambu’ as he was in high school anymore. Lost his charm probably. And of course, there are quite a number who spotted a sophisticated yuppie looks which means they are no longer look like ‘kutu prahak’ LOL…

Ok enough about reunion. Right now I really feel lazy to go anywhere. But due to social expectation, one is supposed to go travelling while studying in a foreign country and snapped self pictures with background of interesting places visited as a prove that one has been to there. What the hell…I know that I won’t feel any regret if I hadn’t been anywhere while I was here, but I will feel regret because others expects me to go somewhere. I had thought of travelling alone and then there is this one irritating problem. Who is going to snapped my photos? I hate it when I have to ask strangers to take my photo.

And I’m still waiting for something to happen. I send out quite a few submissions of graphic design works during the semester. But I tired of hoping. When I was busy last semester, there were commissions and called for submission of artworks and installations but I couldn’t really do anything because obviously I had to give full commitment to Uni projects. But now that I had nothing to do, all entries are closed. Damn it! Ah…why even bother…I’ll never be good enough to qualify anyway…

The incident (as promised)

Saturday, July 02, 2005
Ok here’s what happened. Few weeks before the semester ended, I was really busy and always stayed late at Uni. One night, when I was walking home at about 3ish a security car stopped next to me by the roadside. The security guard offered to give me a lift to the end of Parker Avenue, which is at the back entrance of the Uni. I thanked her, but I declined because it is so near and it seems quite ridiculous to have a lift when I could just walk in less than 2 minutes. But she insisted, so I got into the car.

On the way, she told me the police had called Uni security that night informing them 3 aboriginal men was running away from the police and was seen heading toward Uni. She said she would like to send me home, instead of to the back entrance, but she was not sure whether her insurance would cover her if she drove outside Uni. So she stopped the car and called someone. After she got her confirmation, she drove me all the way home. Hmm…so this confirmed that it is not such a good idea after all to be walking alone in this place late at night. There is always a risk, anyway.

In another incident, my neighbour’s door was banged at 3ish one night. My neighbour refused to open the door when a woman outside asked him for a lighter. The woman, probably drunk, as according to my neighbour, begged him not to call the police when he shouted to her to go away, still without opening the door. Then he ran upstairs, and from the window of his room he saw an aboriginal women, apparently drunk, walking away, not in a straight line tough.

I’m bored and still haven’t decided what to do for the holidays. Time is flying. Tic toc tic toc, what you waiting for abHan?
